The Lord of the Flies The Lord of the Flies was written by William Golding and published in 1954. The story follows a group of British school boys in the attempts to survive on a deserted island after the plane transporting them is shot down. All the adults die in the crash, forcing the boys to fend for themselves and attempt to be rescued. During their stay on the island, they attempt to create a stable society with disastrous results.

The Lord of the Flies thesis statementThe theme statement I chose for this story is that: Authority makes and enforces societal norms and standards for people. When the authority is removed, then people make their own cultural norms and standards. Eventually these standards are molded by necessity or human nature.
