I chose this image because it symbolizes the change in Jack's behavior from a more civilized person to a hunter who is trying to hunt but is weary of a surprise attack from behind. The shadows behind the hunter represent Jack's instinctive fear of the unknown. This fear is due to the lack of security the children have on the island, because in the society they came from security that was handled by the Police or Army, but on the island they don't have any of these groups so they are changing their behavior to better adapt to the situation. |
I chose this quote because it shows how people that are thrust into a survival situation have an inner battle between their logic and instincts. Jack dismisses the feeling of being hunted through logic, but he feels like there is someone constantly behind him. This is because the boys in the story come from a safe and secure British society with clear understanding of right and wrong. When pushed into this survival situation with no adults to help and protect them, no laws or regulations and no one to enforce the rules the children have to take care of themselves, causing them to lean more towards their instincts instead of logic. |
