I chose this picture of the Aztec calendar with the Aztec God of War, Huitzilopochtli, because he's a deity that the Aztecs sacrificed people to so that the sun would keep rising and they wouldn’t all die. Just like Jacks sacrifice to the beast, the Aztecs sacrificed people or animals to Huitzilopochtli so that the sun would keep rising and they all could live. |
I choose this quote to support my thesis because it shows the shift from acceptable societal standards of the boys to a more tribal and primitive one. Jack gives the pigs head as an offering to stop the beast from eating the children. If an adult was there to witness this action, Jack would feel embarrassed, but because there are none to see this, he commits the act that many at that time considered immoral and barbaric. |
